Szczecin in Warsaw
We have been summoned to the Big City of Warsaw by British Council.
Me and Asia had the pleasure to arrive to Warsaw yesterday. Our beautiful capitol greeted us with a snowstorm! A normal person would react a little bit different, I think, but we giggled like little children! Though we arrived pretty late we took the opportunity to walk to the old town to enjoy a cup of tea in a very charismatic café.
This morning (after waking up to early, at 7 a clock) the TV said it was -11C! This is unthinkable in Szczecin but made my Swedish heart homesick :)
Today started our first day with the librarian friends from all over Poland. We have libraries that work with British Council from Lublin, Poznan, Katowice, Lodz, Torun, Wroclaw and off course Warsaw.
We have so much to talk about our schedule is 40 min on overtime! Right now we have a little break for coffee. Soon we will find out what projects British Council has planned for next year!
Stay tuned!

Back from the weekend!
Hi everybody!
I really hope you all had a good weekend!
Here in Szczecin we had a lot going on! On Friday two lovely workers from ACKJ/SUSC attended the International Christmas Party at Willa Lentza. It was a very good initiative by Loren Ozanne where we got the chance to meet some great people, sing Christmas carols and exchange gifts. Oh, and off course try Christmas food from all over the world! Mmm.. it was great!
And on Sunday we had our first snowfall!! It made me so happy, I love snow! Somehow this thin white cover managed to survive until today morning, amazing! Can You feel the Christmas Spirit?
Our workshop is going a little bit slow today. I decided to learn how to crochet. I don't know if it was such a good idea. Right before I gave up we got a visitor. She said she got her whole car filled
with book she wants to give us! Joanna came with over 300 books in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and a few Russian as well!!! We were so overwhelmed and as a thank you let her lend six book instead of five, which is the usual limit ;)
(will post pictures/photos soon)
See You soon!

ReCycling Christmas!!
Welcome,
Yesterday Asia said she has a big plastic x-mas tree that she can bring to work so that we can feel the Christmas spirit in our basement. Off course it was a lovely idea but then we remembered that we have no Christmas tree ornaments!
So we came up with the idea to make our own and recycle all the old pamphlets and other papers laying around here.
It started yesterday, our little workshop at the Library and it will continue the whole next week as well.
You are all welcome to join us and help us dress our tree!!
The workshop is open until 16th of december!

Welcome Readers!
This is a blog created in the basement of an extraordinary institution. I'm not saying this to brag, I am honestly impressed by what is going on here!
This town, Szczecin, is one of the most exciting cities I've been to. It's not very pretty, there are not many typical tourist attractions. In this town everything happens underneath the surface. When you get Your hand on a small pamphflet called ECHO Szczecin You will discover that there is so much to do and so much to see that You just have to stay here longer than planned!
What this institution does is not written in the ECHO Szczecin pamphlet (All though it sometimes should). This basement, off course the whole institution, belong to the University of Szczecin. It's called Akademickie Centrum Kształcenia Językowego. Yes, a very long name and not very easy to pronounce. The abbreviation is ACKJ, in English it is SULC, The Szczecin University Linguistic Centre. SULC teaches foreign languages to over 36 000 of the Universities students! It hosts courses for students from the whole region and organizes important exams. For example there is one incredible course called the Synoptical course, created by dr Piotr Wahl. He teaches three languages simultaneous, French, Spanish and Portuguese!
Enough about what is above the ground, lets go under the surface! To the basement of this great building! In the basement is the foreign language library in cooperation with British Council. This, if I may say, is like the cherry on top of the cake. The library is open for the student and the public! We have more that 15 000 positions in 6 different languages and it doesn't stop there! For example, we organize Story Telling for kids and exhibitions in our gallery.
When You visit us You will meet Paweł (the LibraryBoss), Asia (British Council expert) and Irenka (the Swedish girl). We are the team that tries to make our library fun and a place where people can come together.
